SUCCESS STORIES

Bucky, 2, formerly known as George had been at Sue’s Rabbit Rescue for almost a year. He had been overlooked by potential owners because of his nervous behaviour. However, he got lucky just in time for Christmas 2003 when he was taken home to live with his new female companion, Belly, also 2 years old.
It was not easy as Belly had just lost her companion rabbit not long before and she was very territorial. But with patience, they are now the best of friends and live happily together in Glossop.
It just goes to show that with a little persistence you can always find a companion for your rabbit. Although still a little nervous, Bucky’s character has begun to shine through and he is very much loved. Bucky and Belly always look forward to the nice weather when they have full run of the garden.

Hi Mick and Sue,

Just to let you know that dibble’s been getting on fine she isn’t shaking as much as she used to and her and smudge really love each other!!!! Dibble seems to be frightened of loud noises especially helicopters she acts all strange and the whites of her eyes show but when she is frightened she runs up to me and cuddles up to me as if to say “mummy im scared” she really is a lovely bunny who’s well natured! She never growls anymore either she’s settled in really well! I just want to say thanks very much for giving her to us we love her dearly! My granddad has built them a big run and next he is going to build them a really big hutch one of those which has the ladders for the rabbits to climb up hehe! We love dibble so much were really glad we got her and I hope all of your bunnies are doing well at the rescue I’m sure dibble misses all of her friends there!

Many thanks,

Fern dibble and smudge

Hiya!

Just an email to let you know how the bunnies are doing really!

They've settled in really well and are eating tons of food and pooping normally etc. I'm having to exercise Sox a hell of a lot as he is so lively! He's not too over enthusiastic about having a cuddle but he doesn't kick or box me so I'm ok. It's not that he's mean or agressive , he's just his own person and likes to move about. She's a little darling and very open to cuddles but he is a bit of a maniac hehe. I can certainly see why the other adoption person may have thought he was a bit much. But, given lots of exercise he seems more placid because he's not got any pent up energy.

He was full of beans this morning after a night in the hutch but was a much happier/nicer bunny after a day in the biggest run I could create. I have had to concoct a roof to the run though because he is very much an explorer and keeps trying his best to hop out and I didn't want to come home and be minus one bunny! The missus doesn't care about escaping, she just wants to make sure she's closest to the food dish!

Anyways, just wanted to say thanks and to let you know they're doing great...

Hi Mick & Sue,

Brandy is settling in really well and has quickly worked out and perfected jumping in and out of the door to her house, and with our house being suitably rabbit proofed we didn't shut her in last night but left her door open, which she seemed to enjoy.  Yesterday we took her into the garden for a bit as it was nice out, she loves running around on the grass and has discovered Smokie's old burrow under his old rabbit hutch which moved outside when we got the cage.  She loves any kind of tunnel and has discovered the cupboard under the stairs which is currently empty.  Smokie's cage lived under there as he was never shut in and he had the darkness and quiet if he wanted it and Brandy's house will move under there when she is living 'free' all the time as the door is n ever shut and provides a peaceful place to rest.

She is a delight to have around the place and is showing that she has quite a personality.

Thank you for providing us with a little bundle of joy (though looking at her feet she will grow quite large!)

Kelly and Gareth xxx

Hello Mick and Sue

We  just thought you might be interested to hear how Fudge (Rosie) and Patch (Jack) are getting along.  As you know Patch wasn't very well a few days after we got him, but he has made a complete recovery.  He has been quite a timid little rabbit, usually following behind Fudge, but in the last few days he has become a bit bolder and has started to come for cuddles.  Fudge is the dominant one, Patch is just like a little slave to her as she constantly demands grooming.  He usually obliges and they seem to be getting on really well.   At first Fudge wouldn't stand us stroking her, she used to nip quite hard, but now she is a lovely affectionate bunny.  She comes and puts her head down when she wants stroking and jumps on to my knee when I sit on the sofa at night.  They both seem very contented and we are happy to have got them.

I looked on your website and saw that Olim is still with you.  I hope you manage to find him a home soon.

We will keep in touch to let you know how the bunnies are doing.

Best wishes

Linda and Ron

Sue and Mick

Here is a picture of Floppy and Button (was Spike), Button is the one at the top of the picture and Floppy is the one on the right with Winnie in the middle. Although it took patience and perseverance they are now happy
living with Winnie and he is certainly happy at having two female
compa
nians.

They seem to enjoy being out in the garden even though Button spends most of the time trying to destroy it.

Floppy and Button are still sleeping indoors as Button is extremely playful
and Floppy is only just getting used to being chased around in the early
hours of the morning. They have been spending a couple of hours a day for
the past few days in the outdoor hutch and hopefully by the weekend they
will be back in there permanently.

Hope the rest of your bunnies find a nice new home.

Frankie & Anthony

Hello Sue & Mick!

Just letting you know Charlie is doing fine! Him and Veronica are getting along - no fights as yet (touch wood!). I feel i've been very lucky - i've read stories on the internet about pairing up rabbits and they all seem to have fights to start with.
Veronica was a little spoilt to start with and was teritorial with her food & water bowls so I bought them like a double plastic dogs bowl so they can have a side each, and i've had no problems! If I stroke Charlie Veronica comes running over and joins in, Charlie usually licks her face and ears which she loves.
If you're ever in the Bradford area feel free to drop in and visit them both!

Hiya

Just to let you know, Socks and Shoes have had a name change to Tubbs and Edward (a husband and wife couple of a TV show - League of Gentlemen). They are now house bunnies as I've had a change round.

The girls, Thelma and Louise were both spayed sucessfully but their personalities really changed. Louise was stomping and charging about and attacking Thelma everytime someone came in the kitchen so I cleaned out the outdoor hutch and run and tried them in there which seems to have cured her agression. I have no idea why she went like that but thank gawd it's cured because it was worrying me sick.

Anyways, Ed and Tubbs are loving living indoors. They are in the hutch/cage and run in the day and they have all the kitchen when I get home. They're doing well with their litter training and only getting a few poops outside the trays now so they can venture into the living room soon. He is an absolute darling to Tubbs and always washes her and snuggles with her, it really is lovely to watch. They are such brave bunnies, nothing phases them at all and they are really enjoying indoor life. I've attached a couple of pics but I'll send more shortly once I've done the daily clean out. I currently have about half a bale of hay all over the kitchen floor thanks to Edward! hehe :-)

Tubbs' summer coat is coming though so I'm brushing her each evening. Ed already has a silky coat so he's fine but hers needs a brush just to get the loose hairs out. She'll be a lot more comfy once all that's out no doubt as it's really getting warm now.

I think now Edward has a nice large place to spring about and enjoy himself it takes the sting out of his tail and he's not a handful or over-exuberant. He's just a happy and relaxed rabbit now and I am really happy I took them both on. Craig thinks they're great and the dog loves them too. He often lies next to Edward and licks his ear! Although Edward doesn't like it when the dog tries to steal his bunny toys! He stomps and Zak runs off hehe. I guess we know who the boss is there!

How is it going with the others - had many rehomings? Oh and did you find that website that was supposed to have been done for you? Only asking because I still have a nice website package on my PC that I can use for you if you need me to, otherwise I can delete it.

Take care and like I said, I'll send some more piccies later. They're done off my mobile phone so the quality isn't pin sharp but my webcam is playing up so it'll have to do!

Lisa and the bunnies x

Hi Mick & Sue

Just to let you know that Sophie is making herself at home.
She is now known as Spotty Sophie.
She is eating very well and getting used to the garden.
Bugsy is still frisky but its wearing off now, they seem to be
getting on just fine.

Dear Sue and Mick,

We thought it was about time we dropped you a note to let you know how Babs (Californian) and Flo (New Zealand) - previously known as Scruffy and Suky are getting on.

To immediately put your mind at rest we are really pleased to tell you that they have both settled into life at the Mayne household without any problems at all.  They've been exhibiting all of the charming, funny and, at times exhasperating behaviour that we've come to expect of carefree, juvenile bunnies.

During the work-day the girls occupy the dining room.  Evening times and week-ends they are free to roam the entire downstairs of the house and have access to the secure back garden via the dining room patio doors.

They are a wonderful pairing spending lots of time sprawled out side by side or attentively grooming each other.  Babs comes across as the more mischevious of the two, while Flo seems more sedate and calculating.  It's quite often the case that Babs gets into trouble for doing something she knows she shouldn't do but has done it because Flo has been egging her on.  Meanwhile, Flo sits back and seems to take a quiet pride in getting Babs into hot water!

So far they've been far less destructive than our previous house rabbit, Brian.  We suspect that's because they have each other for company during the day so there's less chance of them getting bored.  They have used their litter trays religiously since the day we brought them home which was wonderful as we'd (foolishly?) just had new carpets fitted.

Two weeks after bringing them home the buns had their first visit to our vet, Judith Brown.  She said they looked in the peak of health and they've since had their myxy and VHD vaccinations.

We'd like to thank you again for letting us come down to see you and we can't express how grateful we are to you for allowing us to take Babs and Flo home - we simply can't imagine life without them now.

We hope you and your menagerie are well and that the endless cycle of care and cleaning isn't getting you down too much!  Keep up the great work!!  As promised, we'll continue to keep you posted on how the girls are getting on.

Hope you like the piccies!  Best wishes, and thanks again.

Phil, Jo, Babs and Flo Mayne.
